Crown Football Round-Up

What a great week it’s been for Connor Kirby. The Young Owls midfielder made his professional debut for Sheffield Wednesday’s senior team during their 3-0 win over Reading at Hillsborough. Connor replaced Frederico Venancio with 13 minutes left.

The 19-year old said: “It was the best moment of my life so far! It’s a thrill to play in front of so many fans and I hope to get many more chances. The manager kept telling me to get warm so I had a feeling I might come on, so I was prepared for when it happened. I was buzzing to get the chance.” Connor has been involved with the first team regularly since Jos Luhukay’s appointment as manager. Congratulations, Connor!

Goalkeepers Christian Walton and Jamie Jones have set new club records. They have racked up 26 clean sheets between them in League One, 18 of which have been kept by Christian. But the 22-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion loanee says it's completely a team effort. “The clean sheet record is something for us to celebrate collectively.”

And after their 4-0 win over Fleetwood, Latics earned promotion back to the Sky Bet Championship. Latics boss Cook said, "I just can't think of a more fitting day." It was perfect in terms of the weather, the crowd, everyone here to watch. We were always waiting on other results, but I have to heap all of the praise on my players and staff”. And with 2 games left to play the side hope to secure the League One title.

See Christian and Jamie’s reaction on the promotion and new club records below:

From one promotion to another… Blackburn Rovers U23’s earned promotion to Premier League 2 Division 1. Tyler Magloire’s side were crowned Premier League 2 Division 2 champions, after 3 late goals helped secure a 4-1 win over West Brom.
